1. Tree space (2009)
Workshop & Home &showroomself build

1. Construction started in April 2009 and completed in November. Workshop on the 1st floor, showroom on the 2nd floor, and home. The building is constructed using traditional construction methods and uses materials produced within Kyoto Prefecture. A building with cedar clapboard exterior walls. We are indebted to many people, including KOGA Architectural Design Office, who helped us with the lumber, including allowing us to visit master carpenter Nomura's workshop for a month. The basics were to have the master come and have us (Toru Asakura + Rena + my father) tie all the parts that intersect at a 200mm pitch, which is an experience that we would not normally have. I did a lot. Being able to see how a house is completed and by what kind of craftsman is involved is extremely useful when making furniture. By looking at the furniture that has been used in your home, you can create a space where you can imagine living with wooden furniture. (Currently, you can view this showroom by appointment.

Half-self-build an atelier next to the workshop

2, 2018. We created a 100㎡ white cube shop space. We renovated the ironworks, which is a 1-minute walk from the workshop. Until then, the situation was ``delivering furniture and receiving the next order without samples in hand'' or ``displaying large furniture at department stores and exhibition halls as if it were being moved every time'', but at Sumiya Shop. We have shifted our focus to creating a place where people can see the actual furniture. We have now become a furniture store that is easy to choose for both those who are looking forward to ordering and waiting, and those who want to make a decision based on the actual wood grain and presence. Currently, this SHOP space is open on weekdays from 10:00 to 16:00. You can come without a reservation. (Please park your car in front of the workshop number 1 and press the doorbell at the workshop number 1.) If you are consulting on custom furniture, Toru Asakura may be unavailable due to deliveries or meetings, so it will go smoothly if you come after contacting us.
3. In the fall of 2023, it was becoming too small for only 4 creators, so we created a NEW atelier next to the 1st workshop. (Workshop on the 1st floor, exhibition on the 2nd floor) Workshop No. 1 has not yet opened, and we have been able to focus all our efforts on creating a self-build workshop for the past year, but this time we are working on making regular custom furniture at the same time. Therefore, with the cooperation of ITAYA KOBO, we built the foundation, frame, and roof by ourselves for the second time. After that, the exterior wall base, interior wall base, fittings, windows, extra-large staircase chest of drawers, and floor were all made of solid wood. (Chestnut sliding entrance door, cedar toilet door, zelkova and yew window frames, maple stair handrails, etc.) The earthen walls and earthen floor created by Saito plasterers are mysterious and impressive, and the space is wrapped in a variety of textures, including scraping, troweling, and polishing of agate. The woodworking team worked together for several months, including doing ground work in high places during the cold season, using waterproof tape, curing, measuring, kneading, and scraping the soil, but the woodworking team was exhausted by the unfamiliar soil work. was. The first floor is a workshop. We will also take on the challenge of building architectural features such as kitchens. The showroom on the second floor has been created into a space where mud walls, plastered floors, chestnut Korean flooring, and wooden furniture resonate with the greenery and light of the coal mine.
